Road Safety – equity issues – one size doesn’t fit all.

kris08267

Kris has a long standing interest in road safety especially in relation to equity issues faced by pedestrians, people with disabilities and children which are often neglected in research.

One strand of current work focuses on the link between safety and security in the context of discouraging outdoor activity by children Kris Beuret and Heather Ward - YouTube. Another project relates to the ongoing debate about low traffic neighbourhoods and shared use – the results of which Kris is presenting research at this year’s National Road Safety Conference in November.

Other research is about different patterns, attitudes and experiences of women in relation to road safety. A project with Claire Corbett (Brunel) and Heather Ward (UCL) in 2016 highlighted the different from men and the growing problem of women in relation to drunk driving.

This report is derived from a survey undertaken in 2013 to explore some key issues identified in the 2012 literature review, produced by the same authors, and commissioned by the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund supported by Direct Line Insurance Group. Few are currently planning to update these findings.
